Remembrance and Ice Cream Floats

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”

                                                                                                                     – President Harry S. Truman

Happy Memorial Day!

Many people forgot that today is not just an extra day off for a three-day weekend but something much more. As someone who has had family members serve in the armed services and lost their life in war, I think today is very important. While spending time with friends and family  at picnics, barbecues, parades, beaches or cheering your team at the ball park, please try to take a moment to join with me in remembering and saying a prayer of gratitude for those that are not here.

MemorialDayPicnic

Today at my Memorial Day cookout, I am serving my turkey/spinach burgers, sweet potatoes fries, and grilled sweet peppers. To wash it all down, Vernors ice cream floats. The perfect drink for summer.

Vernors Ice Cream Floats

To make this deliciousness, fill your glass with a small amount of Vernors ginger ale, fill with scoops of ice cream. My favorite is another Detroit favorite, Sanders’ vanilla ice cream. Fill the glass to the top with more Vernors. The float gets its name because the ice cream will float to the top. Add a straw and drink up. I purchased the cute mason jar glasses and straws at Dollar Tree.

Did you know that Vernors will be 150 years old this summer? Making it the oldest pop manufactured in the United States.

xoxo, Christine
